Welcome to sticky Missouri

Kevin Johnson warned me, multiple times, by e-mail and in person.

Missouri is hot and humid in August.

So as I embarked on my journey to Springfield, MO for the Web.com Tour's Price Cutter Charity Championship, I knew what to expect. Or at least I thought I did. I stocked up on plenty of sunscreen, water bottles, hats, and light clothing - even baby powder to combat the dangers of chaffing.

Still, can a kid from Buffalo ever really be prepared for Missouri's version of the dog days of summer? Not quite sure.

Stepping out of my car before walking into a McDonald's for breakfast somewhere off the highway between St. Louis and Springfield, I felt an instant wave of heat. Honestly, it felt like I stepped into a sauna. I checked the time on my phone, and saw it was not even 9:30 in the morning. Nice.

So in preparation for the tournament, I know I have to be smart. If I get tired on the course, I need to know when to take a break if I need to. I need to keep plenty of water in tow, and maybe even a wet towel to keep my face cool. My only true preparation is knowing that I'm not prepared, and hopefully that's enough.

I always thought summer heat in Buffalo was bad. Who was I kidding? This morning's humidity is more pronounced than any I can recall in Buffalo, in over 20 years of living in Western New York.

Should be interesting. The good news? When I make it back home, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to handle the Buffalo/Syracuse idea of heat for the rest of the summer.
